West Street Beat

On Friday the 12th of October, West Street Beat participated in the UNH/Manchester Voices of the 603 A Cappella Festival and Competition. The students spent the day at the college, attending workshops and rehearsals with 12 other high schools. In the evening, they joined with four New Hampshire high schools, the Nashua Granite Statesmen, Snow Day (featured on The Sing Off) and other a cappella groups for a concert.

After performing “Bring Him Home” from Les Miserables and Three Dog Night’s “Shambala”, West Street Beat received many positive comments from both the judges and the audiences, and was awarded “Best Female Soloist”. Our three soloists, Kat, Annie, and Rachel, were expertly supported by the rest of the choir during our songs. Congratulations everyone! Look for the show to be broadcast on NHPTV in the near future!

NEW THIS YEAR– West Street Beat members will not be allowed to miss more than three rehearsals during the fall semester. In the short rehearsal time we have, it is imperative that all members attend every rehearsal. Sports, work, and other activities will not be reasons for missing rehearsal.  If a student misses more than three rehearsals, he/she will not be allowed to perform in the Winter Concert unless they can demonsrate a full knowledge of each piece to be performed. In addition, missing two consecutive rehearsals will be cause for re-auditoning on the current pieces being studied. In order to be an elite group, we must work as a team with all members present at each rehearsal. Music to be programmed for WSB this semester is:

  • My Favorite Things (vocal jazz version, a cappella)
  • Shambala (Three Dog Night tune, a cappella)
  • Bring Him Home (Les Miserables, a cappella)
  • Deck the Hall (a cappella)
  • I Won’t Give Up (Jason Mraz, guitar accompaniment)
